Semva has had a long history of serving local artists by
providing a venue to display artworks for the regional public. This year, Semva
launched a new project of displaying these works for overseas audiences. From
May 23 to June 5, thirty three pieces of fine art were viewed and appreciated
by Korean audiences in Siheung City, South
Korea, Rochester’s
sister city since 2006. This partnership has reached a new level as artists in
both cities have come together to share the body of their work. This year,
the Exchange Exhibition of Fine Artists from Rochester, MN, USA was
a reciprocal exhibition for the Art of Siheung City, Korea
held in the Rochester Art
Center last year. As a
participating entity of artists, Semva was recognized as a representative of
the art and culture of Rochester
and was welcomed and enjoyed immensely by the people half-way around the world.
Also, for the exhibition, Semva sent not only 33 works of
art, but also 7 participating artists to Siheung. Their personal experiences of
the people and culture of Siheung City
will, in turn, enrich our own lives here in Rochester.
In addition, Mayor Ardele Brede and City Council Chairman Dennis Hanson accompanied
the trip, adding extra significance to the occasion.
